Let’s say you’re scrolling through Twitter, and you come across across a tweet that includes a particularly hot take. You click through to read the replies only to find them inexplicably filled with second videos of dancing K-pop idols. The topic at hand may or may not have anything to do with K-pop — so, what gives? Even if you don’t hang in K-pop Twitter circles, it’s becoming hard to avoid the trend. These videos are fancams: short, often fan-shot clips of Korean idols or groups performing live. Recently, fancam replying is the act of responding to any post, any argument, with a fancam, no matter the context. Usually accompanied by stan Twitter language, the dramatic fan vernacular of devotion found mainly online, fancam replies look at a post and quickly divert the topic. It might seem like a harmless way to drum up support for the groups, and it’s not all that different from any fan expressions of love online.
Twitter and Instagram are arguably the best dating apps around
That may be part of why Facebook Dating, which dove into the crowded US market for online dating in September, appears to have landed with a resounding thud. Positive press for the new service has been nonexistent, and a comparison of mentions in search terms shows it trending far below several competitors. According to social media tracking website socialmention.

Since the launch of Tinder in , dating apps have entirely changed the way we pursue love interests and navigate romantic situations. The days of meeting someone at church or going to bars to pick up possible suitors are not completely gone, but they are numbered. Hitting on a stranger in person is, in many places, no longer viewed as socially acceptable. Meanwhile, thanks to diverse users on apps, singles have more direct access to love interests of different racial and ethnic backgrounds, which has caused a spike in interracial dating.
But while dating apps have positively impacted the romance landscape for many of us, social media platforms like Twitter and Instagram might be better for vetting. Long before Tinder, in , there was Kiss. The early dating websites, which required users to set up profiles and sometimes answer hundreds of questions about themselves, created a personal and intimate experience between two strangers like never before. The downside: oftentimes the sites required paid memberships, and matches were based on similarities in profiles rather than freedom of choice.
Then came personal ads on Craigslist, where anyone could post a listing, free of charge, and publicize themselves as available. Tinder, the first dating app to present the swipe and double opt-in feature, created a new era of dating, solving many of the problems online daters ran into before. Location-based, easy to join, and free of charge, Tinder became the obvious go-to in online pursuits.
A single Catholic in D. Single Catholics bemoaned the many difficulties of modern dating — finding someone with the same beliefs, limited options of single Catholics who live in certain areas, the uneven ratio of Catholic women to men, those who seem forever to be discerning and never committing, and so on. Catholic-specific online dating options have also, until recently, been quite limited.
Times are tough in the Catholic dating world, but there are people who are paying attention — and trying to change the game. Emily Zanotti, a married mother of 5-month-old twins and editor for the Daily Wire, is one such person paying attention to the woes of her single sisters and brothers in Christ. When she saw the speed dating conversation on Twitter, Zanotti somewhat off-handedly offered her matchmaking skills to anyone on Catholic Twitter who wanted to be set up.
Cancelling Eve: Twitter mob targets actress Jodie Comer for ‘dating a Donald Trump fan’ after pictures emerged of her with US lacrosse player.
She takes out her enemies in increasingly sadistic fashion as bisexual assassin Villanelle in Killing Eve. Now, however, actress Jodie Comer has found herself the victim after hundreds of social media users called for her to be ‘cancelled’ — the modern equivalent of being chased with burning torches. The Bafta-winner’s apparent crime is that she is said to be dating an American supporter of Donald Trump ‘s Republican party — despite playing a bisexual character in the hit BBC drama. One Twitter user claims to have evidence that Miss Comer, 27, is in a relationship with James Burke, a lacrosse player whom she is said to have met in Boston.
Mr Burke is believed to be pictured with Jodie, above. The star was out shopping with her brother Charlie Comer left.
